Witzenberg is located an hour and a half’s drive away from Cape Town on Route 62 and is nestled in the Cape Winelands District, consisting of the five towns of Ceres, Tulbagh, Wolseley, Op-die-Berg and Prince Alfred’s Hamlet. The picturesque valley is world renowned for producing export quality deciduous fruit, vegetables and wine products. The area is also produces olives, grain, beef and pork.
Witzenberg has positioned itself as a family tourist destination as well as niched itself as an adventure tourism hub offering historical and heritage tours, hiking, 4×4, abseiling, fauna and flora, fresh water fishing, mountain bike trails, San Rock paintings, game and nature reserves, stargazing, birding, cherry and fig picking and winter snowfall.
Witzenberg Municipality tendered for the development and implementation of a Case Management System. This system had to deal with any service request made in the municipality, ranging from information requests to water being off on a street to potholes on the road. The system had to ensure that the incidents could be tracked fully from logging to resolution. The incidents also needed to have built in notifications and escalations to ensure that they were dealt with timeously and nothing could slip between the cracks.
African Ideas developed a Case Management System. This system allowed all incidents across the municipality to be tracked and managed. It also featured rich dashboards with the ability to summarise data by area, status, service type, etc. The system supported automated escalations and notifications based on rules that took into account service type and status.
The system also featured geo-location technology, allowing maps to be seen of incidents with Witzenberg. This also eased the logging of incidents, as the system could pick up the user’s location instantly and allow them to log an incident at that location.
Development of the system was fully underpinned by Agile Methodology and Change Management practices. It was also developed specifically on the Office 365 environment, to take advantage of the familiar and easy-to-use interface that Office provides.
